1 out of 5 Americans has some form of disability, nearly 50 million people. From birth, accident or disease, the disabled have become the largest minority group in America, a group anyone might join.

The Task Force normally meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 PM in the Spencer City Hall council chambers. Contact the Task Force's secretary, Janee Boever, at 418 2nd Avenue West, Spencer, Iowa, 51301 or email her to the attention of the ADA Task Force.

Tips for Understanding people

  1. Be patient with, and tolerant of, others.

  2. Do not expect people to be perfect.

  3. Accept the differences in others.

  4. Be sure you want to understand people.

  5. Look for the good in others.

  6. Learn to love the unlovable.

  7. Separate the behavior from the person.

  8. ASK questions, don't ASSUME.

  9. Place yourself in the other person's situation.

  10. Choose positive, not negative or neutral attitudes.

  11. Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
